Probistip, the town where Hydro system ,,Zletovica,, is located, presents administrative and political centre of Probistip Municipality and is one of the smallest towns in Republic of Macedonia.
The Probistip Municipality is situated in the northeastern part of the Republic of Macedonia, in the middle of Kratovo-Zletovska volcanic and mine area, in the bottom of Osogovo mountains and the flow of the Zletovskariver. The total number of inhabitants of the Probistip Municipality is about 16.500 inhabitants, 10.000 out of which live in the town Probistip and the rest live in 36 settlements of the area called Zletovska area.
Probistip, also called, the town of the miners, started its growth after the completion of the World War II in the period of the formation of free Macedonian country inner the boundaries of the Federal community Yugoslavia. The growth of the town is parallel with the development of the Mines for Lead and Zink ,,Zletovo,,. Initially, only small settlement was formed , but in the period of 1950 – 1955, miners colony was formed with planed and modern infrastructure. The miners colony, gradually transform into small, but modern town with its own infrastructure and significant economic power. In the period of its maximal development and total economical expansion, Probistip was the richest town in Macedonia and Mines for Lead and Zink ,,Zletovo,, and Battery Factory ,,Zletovo,, were carriers of the successful economical development .
The middle of the seventies, unfortunately, was the period of the first signs of crises in the work, management and production in the Mines ,,Zletovo,, and Battery Factory. The crises in the Municipality of Probistip culminated in the transition period in the Republic of Macedonia, when It was existing as independent country.
That is why, the start of the construction of the multipurpose regional hydro system ,,Zletovica,, and all positive trends, which directly or indirectly influence on the activities of the construction of the hydro system, return the hope of the citizens of the municipality of Probistip, for fulfillment of the hope and desire for better and happier future.
